Finding a new job…on Facebook?

Robby
We all know what Facebook is for: silly videos, arguing about politics, or looking up flames that we should never have broken up with. Right? But it turns out that Facebook is a fantastic place to find a job.
How could this be? The secret isn’t just in your own friends. It’s in Facebook groups, which are a fantastic place to find work.

First of all if you’re on Facebook and you’re looking for work, you need to post that you’re looking for work. These are the people that are your friends. They should know what you’re up to. Explain your qualifications and your interests. Offer to meet them for coffee. Ask if you can visit them at their place of employment.
Second, check out the generic job search groups. Here in Central Indiana, we know of several, including:
Help Wanted: Hendricks County Jobs – This Facebook-based job board says: “We are here to help you find a local job or a employee in Hendricks county Indiana AND surrounding areas!” Visit them on Facebook at facebook.com/hendrickscountyjobs
Help Wanted: Johnson County Jobs – This Facebook-based job board says: “We are here to help you find a local job or a employee in Johnson county Indiana AND surrounding areas!” Visit them on Facebook at facebook.com/johnsoncountyjobs
Help Wanted: Indianapolis Jobs – This Facebook-based job board says: “We are here to help you find a local job or a employee in the Indianapolis area.” Visit them on Facebook at facebook.com/helpwantedindianapolisjobs
Job Search/ Employee Search Indianapolis and Surrounding Cities – Run by Indy local Lisa Lyvers, who says “I created this group for those looking for jobs, and those looking for employees. I often see on other sites people asking if anyone knows of places hiring, and I’m hoping that this group will branch out enough to successfully help people get employment.” This is a Facebook group you must apply to join at facebook.com/groups/330350483810488/
Finally, search for industry-specific groups, church groups, past employer groups, alma mater groups, or anything else you’re associated with.
Facebook is a great place to find a job. Stop playing silly games there and get to work finding work!
