Places to Go for Support
As you begin to understand your next step, venturing forth into the world is essential. As wonderful as the web is, a very small percentage of jobs are obtained strictly over the web. Networking is the key, not just to get your next position but also to understanding the market and to obtain a more accurate understanding of what different jobs have to offer. There are many places to go for support. We suggest you consider these:
WorkOne, needs to be on everyone’s list. WorkOne is a partner agency of the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. It enables you to understand and access the resources of the Indiana government for the development of the state’s workforce. They are at in.gov/dwd/WorkOne
Business Professional Exchange: the Business & Professional Exchange (BPE) is the area’s largest independent, not-for-profit educational and networking group, focused specifically on professionals in career transition. Visit them at http://bpe.groupsite.com
Workplace Fairness – This is a group that “believes that fair treatment of workers is sound public policy and good business practice, and that free access to comprehensive, unbiased information about workers’ rights – without legal jargon – is an essential ingredient in any fair workplace.” Visit them at workplacefairness.org
