Places to Go for Support

As you begin to understand your next step, venturing forth into the world is essential. As wonderful as the web is, a very small percentage of jobs are obtained strictly over the web. Networking is the key, not just to get your next position but also to understanding the market and to obtain a more accurate understanding of what different jobs have to offer. There are many places to go for support. We suggest you consider these:

WorkOne, needs to be on everyone’s list. WorkOne is a partner agency of the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. It enables you to understand and access the resources of the Indiana government for the development of the state’s workforce. They are at in.gov/dwd/WorkOne

Business Professional Exchange: the Business & Professional Exchange (BPE) is the area’s largest independent, not-for-profit educational and networking group, focused specifically on professionals in career transition. Visit them at http://bpe.groupsite.com

Workplace Fairness – This is a group that “believes that fair treatment of workers is sound public policy and good business practice, and that free access to comprehensive, unbiased information about workers’ rights – without legal jargon – is an essential ingredient in any fair workplace.” Visit them at workplacefairness.org

Jobseeker Central – This is IndyAtWork’s own section devoted to people ready to take the next step in their career. Take a look at indyatwork.com/jobseeker-central/

Dress for Success Indianapolis – The mission of Dress for Success Indianapolis is: “To promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.” Contact them for at indydfs.org.
